Last night Troop 169 hosted Cub Scouts from Pack 169 and Pack 157 at their Jamboree-on-the-Air event. Members of the Orange County Amateur Radio Club brought their equipment and set up four stations at the Mt. Hope Senior Center. Scouts were able to make contact with hams in Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, the Philippines, as well as Ohio, Illinois, and Long Island. Scouts also learned how amateur radio can “help other people at all times” when radio club members shared how they volunteered during emergencies including Hurricane Sandy, Hurricane Irene, and September 11th, as well as during local events including the NYC Marathon. Thank you again to the Orange County Amateur Radio Club for all of your time, talents, and expertise. And a special thank you to Mr. Turken who donated pizza and drinks for all volunteers and attendees.
