Map, Compass, and Orienteering

Map, Compass, and Orienteering

Scouts working on Second and First Class need to learn how to use a map and a compass and then complete an orienteering course.  Sound daunting?  Well along with your trusty Scout Handbook, here’s a great article on learning how to use a compass:  Map and Compass Skills
And where to find an orienteering course?  Right over the  border at the Pocono Environmental Education Center.  Maps are available at the main office for $1 and the course is open and free to the public from dawn to dusk.    PEEC even offers an Intro to Orienteering Class for the bargain price of $5.  It’s a great way to gain familiarity with the course and practice your skills before trying it out on your own.  See PEEC.org for more information and to register.
