This week’s meeting, in keeping with September’s theme of Orienteering, will focus on Map & Compass skills. Scouts should have their handbook, pen/pencil, paper and a compass if you have one.
Registration/payment for this year’s Camporee will be due at this meeting. This is a council deadline and not flexible; permission slips, health forms, and payment must be brought to our first meeting. The cost is $20 per person (includes lunch and dinner on Saturday plus breakfast on Sunday; no breakfast provided Saturday) . The theme is the Civil War and will take place at Walnut Mountain Park in Liberty. The stations include: Signaling; Artillery; Cooking; First Aid; Orienteering; Pioneering. A Patrol Flag is required for the event and we will be assigned either the Union or Confederate side when we register. Drivers will be needed for drop-off and pick-up; carpool information will be discussed at the meeting onThursday.
In addition, September 17th is our first outdoor event: Intro to Orienteering. Scouts must call PEEC and register for the Intro to Orienteering class ($5 fee, 570-828-2319; registration will not be handled through the Troop). Please make sure Mr. Fedina knows if you are attending. (** CORRECTION: NO HIKE FOLLOWING ORIENTEERING**)
This week will also be our first committee meeting of the 2017-18 Scouting Year. Volunteers are always needed – many hands make light work!
