This Week: 9/14

This week’s meeting, in keeping with September’s theme of Orienteering, will focus on Map & Compass skills.  Scouts should have their handbook, pen/pencil, paper and a compass if you have one.
Registration/payment for this year’s Camporee will be due at this meeting.  This is a council deadline and not flexible; permission slips, health forms, and payment must be brought to our first meeting.   The cost is $20 per person (includes lunch and dinner on Saturday plus breakfast on Sunday; no breakfast provided Saturday) . The theme is the Civil War and will take place at Walnut Mountain Park in Liberty. The stations include:   Signaling;  Artillery;  Cooking;  First Aid;  Orienteering;  Pioneering.   A Patrol Flag is required for the event and we will be assigned either the  Union or Confederate side when we register.  Drivers will be needed for drop-off and pick-up; carpool information will be discussed at the meeting onThursday.
In addition, September 17th is our first outdoor event: Intro to Orienteering.  Scouts must call PEEC and register for the Intro to Orienteering class ($5 fee, 570-828-2319; registration will not be handled through the Troop).  Please make sure Mr. Fedina knows if you are attending.   (** CORRECTION: NO HIKE FOLLOWING ORIENTEERING**)
This week will also be our first committee meeting of the 2017-18 Scouting Year.  Volunteers are always needed – many hands make light work!
